I was given a digital copy by the author in exchange for an honest review.

Everything paranormal that haunts Harper started when they opened a portal for another dimension upon playing the Ouija board. Since then, Harper started seeing shadows right before they disappeared. At first, she was having one of the sweetest moments in her life together with Gavin, and the next thing she knew, he was being dragged away from her, into the woods, and the momentarily silence was cut away by Gavin's screams. Almost a year has passed since Gavin's death, and since then, Harper won't stop looking for clues that will prove that something unnatural or inhuman exists, and lives with us.

The novel follows the story of Harper Young, a senior high school student who was treated as an outcast by her own set of friends and most of the student body, as they indirectly accused her of killing her own boyfriend. She is determined and has a strong personality, but at the same time, she couldn't help but feel lost. In addition, her distant relationship with her parents certainly did not help her situation, as well as the constant feeling of not being able to reach the standards of her parents, who were both in the medical career.

When Harper enrolled at Guardare Academy, she hoped that she will be accepted once again, but the hostility that she received from the other students (and creatures) says otherwise. Only a handful of people seems to accept her. One of them was Dexter, who is caring and sweet, and upholds the law of the Council. Leo, on the other hand, is the arrogant golden boy of the Council and will do anything in order to make Harper leave Guardare. And then there's Sofia, the Keeper who brought her at the academy in the first place.

Paranormal Keepers is a well-paced story with twists and turns that caught me off guard. The snarky and witty comebacks clearly added more fun in the novel, though there were times when I felt like the snide remarks were too forceful or inappropriate.

From Professor Gehret, the mothman who foreseen the arrival of Harper, to the animated corpse of Professor Hawkins, Paranormal Keepers is one of those hidden gems in the Paranormal section. For the readers who want to try novels under the Paranormal genre that doesn't have vampires or werewolves as the main characters, then Paranormal Keepers is something that they should add in their tbr list.

About the Author

Jen Naumann grew up in southern Minnesota as an addict of such flicks as Indiana Jones and The Goonies until she discovered John Hughes, and spent her high school days locked away writing love stories with a sci-fi twist. Married to a farmer in southern Minnesota, she tries to follow the madness of her four active children while balancing an imagination that never shuts down. As the author of CHEATING DEATH, SHYMERS, AND PARANORMAL KEEPERS, she writes stories with strong female leads who have a good sense of humor and tend to fall in love despite their better judgment.
