Event Recap | Tahereh Mafi, Ransom Riggs and Veronica Rossi Book Signing

Last Saturday, April 26, 2014, I was fortunate to attend the 4th book signing event this year. New York Times best-selling authors Tahereh Mafi (The Juliette Chronicles), Ransom Riggs (Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children) and Veronica Rossi (Under the Never Sky Trilogy) manage to gather 2000+ readers in just a single day. How awesome is that?

I arrived at the venue around 8 o'clock in the morning, and then met up with my Peculiar family. Mommy Joan was one of the few people who were waiting outside the NBS store during the wee hours in the morning. We're thankful that most of the members in the family arrived early, snagging up at least 15 seats, and right in front of the stage. Aside from seeing the Peculiar family once again, I finally met Anette of Anette the Wicked in person. We actually stared into each other's eyes when me and Jayvee of Writer for Misfits passed by her before giving each other a hug.

Which team are you on?
The registration started around quarter to ten, and for the first time, I'm the 68th person to register. Each person can only have 8 books signed because there's nearly 2000+ readers who attended the event. Since the book signing will start at 2 o'clock in the afternoon, we decided to check out the Bloggers' Forum because we're too excited to just sit down and wait. During the course of trying to get the attention of the authors who were all busy interacting with the book bloggers and after having a photo shoot with our respective banners, THEY FINALLY NOTICED US.

Forum Adventure

A few minutes after this photo was taken, they Ransereh
finally looked in our direction.
So, Eriele the Mermaid got to talk to Ransom and told her that he likes her tiara. Here's the full conversation between the two of them:

Ransom: Do you levitate?
Eriele: No...
Ransom: You just have to think hard. *touches his temples*
Eriele: ...I ate too much.

Ransom took a picture of Eriele, and then Tahereh took a picture of us together with our Team Adam, Team Warner & Team Kenji banners. We fangirled so hard after that.

We waited for the forum to end, and thank goodness that we did because Mommy Joan was skyping with Kayla of The Bookish Owl during that time! That's when she got to skyped with Ransom!

The book signing event started at 3 pm. The best-selling authors were greeted by a deafening cheers from the crowd upon their arrival at Activity Center, Glorietta 1 where the event was held. So far, this is the biggest event that National Bookstore organized for the year 2014, wherein we get to meet not one, but three authors in just a day! Just imagine the crowd of 2000+ readers waiting patiently for their turn to get their books signed! They talked about their experiences while writing their books, as well as their inspirations.

Tahereh revealed that Shatter Me was opted for a possible movie adaptation, as well as Veronica's Under the Never Sky. Whereas the casting for Ransom's Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children finally started, which will be directed by Tim Burton. A few more trivia about their books were revealed during the interview.

Tahereh Mafi
  • Tahereh said that Omega Point's abilities were formed because of what's happening in the environment, and that it's not hereditary.
  • She knew whom Juliette will end up with right after she finished the first novel.
  • Shatter Me was opted for a movie adaptation.

Ransom Riggs
  • He uses the pictures in his books to guide him in his writing.
  • He's currently working on the third book in the series.

Veronica Rossi
  • Veronica revealed that Under the Never Sky was slated for a movie adaptation.
  • She didn't plan on having a love triangle in the series.

Keeping it awkward, making it weird...

The Ransereh ship has been sailing since they've announced their marriage last year. A lot of readers in the event screamed because of this adorable couple. They're actually one of the main reasons why the crowd screamed their lungs out when they arrived.

With Tahereh, Ransom and Veronica! <3

Thank you to my Peculiar family and new found friends, this event wouldn't be crazy without you guys! Also, a huge thanks to National Bookstore for bringing these awesome authors here in the Philippines!
